Crochet Tunic Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 1000-1500 yards, depending on your desired length)
  • Crochet hook (size H/5.0mm or size recommended for your yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Stitches Used:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)

Pattern:

Note: This pattern uses US crochet terminology.

  1. Front Panel: Row 1: Chain 92. Row 2: In the third chain from the hook, work 1 dc. Work 1 dc in each chain across. (90 dc) Rows 3-44: Ch 2 (counts as the first dc), turn. Work 1 dc in each stitch across. (90 dc) Fasten off and weave in ends.
  2. Back Panel: Repeat the same pattern as the Front Panel for Rows 1-44.
  3. Side Panels: Join yarn to one of the corners of the Front Panel. Row 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same corner stitch. Work 1 sc evenly along the side of the Front Panel. At the corner, work 3 sc in the same stitch to turn the corner. Work 1 sc evenly along the side of the Back Panel. At the next corner, work 3 sc in the same stitch to turn the corner. Work 1 sc evenly along the other side of the Front Panel. At the final corner, work 3 sc in the same stitch to turn the corner. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. (See Note) Rows 2-18: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: The number of stitches along the sides may vary depending on your gauge. Adjust the number of stitches to ensure a smooth and even edge.

  1. Neckline: Join yarn to the corner stitch of the Front Panel. Row 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the same stitch and in each stitch across until you reach the corner stitch of the Back Panel. Ch 20 (or any desired length for the neckline), skip the remaining stitches on the Back Panel, and work 1 sc in each stitch across the other side of the Front Panel. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends.
  2. Finishing: Fold the tunic in half, aligning the side panels and front/back panels. Seam the side panels together using the yarn needle and yarn tail. Leave openings for armholes on the side panels.
