Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in your preferred color
- Crochet hook suitable for your chosen yarn weight
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Optional: Lining fabric, zipper or button closure, handles/straps
Instructions:
- Foundation: Start by making a foundation chain of any even number of stitches to create the desired width of your handbag. For example, you can start with a chain of 30 stitches.
- Base: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. This will create the base row of your handbag.
- Body: Chain 1 and turn your work. Single crochet in each stitch across the row. Continue this single crochet row until you reach the desired height of your handbag. You can adjust the number of rows according to your preference.
- Handles/Straps: Once you have reached the desired height, you can create the handles or straps for your handbag. You can make them using the same stitch pattern as the body or opt for a different stitch pattern for contrast. Here’s an example:
- Row 1: Chain 1 and turn your work. Single crochet in each stitch across the row.
- Row 2: Chain 1 and turn your work. Single crochet in each stitch across the row.
- Repeat Row 2 until the handles/straps reach the desired length.
- Finishing: Once you have completed the handles/straps, fasten off and weave in any loose ends. Optionally, you can add a lining to your handbag for added durability and structure. You can also attach a zipper or button closure if desired.
