Description
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in your preferred color
- Crochet hook suitable for your chosen yarn weight
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Optional: Buttons, ribbon, or other embellishments
Size: This pattern is written for a child’s size, but you can adjust it by modifying the initial chain and stitch counts to fit your specific measurements.
Instructions:
- Back Panel:
- Chain the desired number of stitches for the back panel, which will determine the width of the top. For example, you can start with a chain of 40 stitches.
- Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across.
- Chain 1, turn, and single crochet in each stitch across the row.
- Repeat the previous row until the back panel reaches the desired length. You can adjust the number of rows based on the child’s measurements.
- Front Panel:
- Chain the same number of stitches as the back panel for the front panel.
- Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across.
- Chain 1, turn, and single crochet in each stitch across the row.
- Repeat the previous row until the front panel is approximately 2/3 of the desired length of the back panel.
- Connect the Front and Back Panels:
- Lay the front and back panels together with the right sides facing each other.
- Join the sides of the panels by slip stitching or single crocheting through both layers, starting from the bottom and working your way up to the armholes.
- Leave an opening for the armholes by skipping a certain number of stitches (depending on the desired size).
- Armhole Edging:
- Single crochet around the armhole opening to create an edge. You can work 1-2 rounds of single crochet, depending on the desired width of the armhole edging.
- Repeat the same for the other armhole.
- Finishing:
- Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
- Optionally, you can add buttons, ribbons, or other embellishments to the front panel.
