Crochet Beanie

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn (or any yarn of your choice)
Crochet hook appropriate for the yarn weight (check the yarn label for recommended hook size)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Pattern:

Note: This pattern is for a basic beanie worked in rounds.

Begin by creating a slipknot and then make a chain of 4 stitches.
Join the chain in a circle by making a slip stitch into the first chain stitch.
Crochet a chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet) and work 11 double crochets into the center of the circle. This will give you a total of 12 double crochets in the round.
Slip stitch into the top of the chain 2 to join the round.
Chain 2 and then work 2 double crochets into each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. You should now have 24 double crochets in the round.
Chain 2 and then work 1 double crochet into the next stitch, then work 2 double crochets into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. You should now have 36 double crochets in the round.
Continue increasing in this manner, working one additional double crochet between the increases in each round until your beanie reaches the desired circumference. This will create a slightly tapered crown shape.
Once your beanie has reached the desired circumference, work even rounds of double crochets without increasing until the beanie measures the desired length from the top to the bottom edge. You can try it on periodically to check the fit.
Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the yarn tail through the yarn needle and weave it through the stitches of the last round, cinching it closed.
Cut the yarn, leaving a small tail, and weave in any loose ends using the yarn needle.
