Pattern:
Step 1: Start by making a slip knot and chaining a multiple of 3 stitches. The length of the starting chain will determine the circumference of your cowl. For example, you can start with a chain of 60 for a snug cowl or 90 for a looser fit.
Step 2: Join the last chain to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
Step 3: Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as the first half double crochet). Work a half double crochet stitch in each chain around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain. (Make sure to work through both loops of the chain to maintain the round shape.)
Step 4: Rounds 2-5: Chain 2 (counts as the first half double crochet). Work a half double crochet stitch in the back loop only of each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain.
Step 5: Repeat Rounds 2-5 until your cowl reaches the desired height. You can make it as tall as you like, typically 6-8 inches is a good height for a cowl.
Step 6: Once your cowl is the desired height, fasten off and weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
