$10.00 Original price was: $10.00.$0.99Current price is: $0.99.
Materials needed:
Assorted fabric scraps in various colors and patterns
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Scissors
Sewing pins or clips
Stuffing material (such as polyester fiberfill or fabric scraps)
Pattern:
Step 1: Gather your fabric scraps. You can choose any colors and patterns you like, as this project is all about using up your leftover materials.
Step 2: Cut your fabric scraps into rectangular pieces. The dimensions will depend on the size you want for your draft snake. A typical size could be around 4 inches wide and 36 inches long, but you can adjust it according to your needs.
Step 3: Arrange the fabric pieces in the desired order to create a patchwork effect. You can alternate colors, create random patterns, or follow a specific design.
Step 4: Sew the fabric pieces together. Place two pieces right sides together and sew along one of the long edges using a ¼ inch seam allowance. Add more pieces until you’ve sewn all the strips together, creating a long fabric tube.
Step 5: Fold the fabric tube in half lengthwise with the right sides together, matching up the long edges. Pin or clip the edges together.
Step 6: Sew along the pinned edges, leaving a small opening at one end for stuffing.
Step 7: Turn the tube right side out through the opening. Use a pencil or a chopstick to help push out the corners.
Step 8: Stuff the draft snake with your chosen stuffing material. You can use polyester fiberfill or even fabric scraps. Fill it firmly, but not too tightly, so it can easily conform to the shape of the door or window.
Step 9: Hand-sew the opening closed using a slip stitch or a ladder stitch. Make sure it is securely closed.
Your Scrappy Draft Snake is now ready to be placed at the bottom of a door or window to help block drafts and keep your home cozy. Feel free to experiment with different fabric scraps, colors, and patterns to create a unique and personalized draft snake.
