Note: This pattern is for an adult-sized beanie. You can adjust the size by using a different hook size and/or changing the number of stitches in the beginning rounds.

Step 1: Starting with a slip knot, chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Step 2: Chain 2 (counts as the first half double crochet stitch), and work 9 more half double crochet stitches into the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (10 stitches)

Step 3: Chain 2, then work 2 half double crochet stitches into each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (20 stitches)

Step 4: Chain 2, work 1 half double crochet stitch into the next stitch, then work 2 half double crochet stitches into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (30 stitches)

Step 5: Chain 2, work 1 half double crochet stitch into each of the next 2 stitches, then work 2 half double crochet stitches into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (40 stitches)

Step 6: Chain 2, work 1 half double crochet stitch into each of the next 3 stitches, then work 2 half double crochet stitches into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (50 stitches)

Step 7: Chain 2, work 1 half double crochet stitch into each of the next 4 stitches, then work 2 half double crochet stitches into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. (60 stitches)

Step 8: Continue working in rounds without increasing. Chain 2, then work 1 half double crochet stitch into each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2. Repeat this round until the beanie measures your desired length (typically around 7-8 inches).

Step 9: To finish, fasten off your yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through your yarn needle and weave it through the stitches of the last round. Pull tight to close the top of the beanie. Secure and weave in any loose ends.
