Yarn needle

Baby Cocoon Pattern:
Step 1: Foundation
Start by creating a foundation chain that is long enough to wrap around the baby comfortably. You can measure this by holding the chain against the baby’s body from their shoulders to their feet. Make sure to leave a bit of room for stretching. The average chain length is around 40-50 inches (100-125 cm).
Step 2: Joining
After completing the foundation chain, join the last chain to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
Step 3: Body of the Cocoon
Row 1: Chain 2 (counts as the first stitch), then work double crochet stitches (DC) all around the chain ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2.
Row 2: Chain 2, DC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2.
Repeat Row 2 until the body of the cocoon reaches the desired length. You can continue for about 14-16 inches (35-40 cm) or adjust according to your preference.
Step 4: Finishing
Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle.
Baby Hat Pattern:
Step 1: Starting
Begin with a magic ring or chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to the first chain to form a ring.
Step 2: Crown of the Hat
Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as the first stitch), then work 11 double crochet stitches (DC) into the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2. (12 stitches)
Round 2: Chain 2, DC in the same stitch as the chain-2. Work 2 DC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2. (24 stitches)
Round 3: Chain 2, DC in the next stitch, 2 DC in the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2. (36 stitches)
Step 3: Hat Body
Round 4: Chain 2, DC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2.
Round 5-8: Repeat Round 4. Adjust the number of rounds if you want a longer or shorter hat.
Step 4: Edging
Round 9: Chain 1 (counts as the first single crochet), SC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first chain-1.
Round 10: Chain 1, SC in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first chain-1.
Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle.
Step 5: Finishing
Attach a pom-pom or any desired embellishments to the top of the hat if you wish. Weave in any remaining loose ends.
