Step 1: Starting with a magic ring, make 8 single crochet (sc) stitches into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch to the first sc to form a circle.
Step 2: Chain 1. Make 2 sc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. (16 stitches)
Step 3: Chain 1. Make 1 sc in the next stitch, then 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. (24 stitches)

Step 8: Chain 1. Make 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. (56 stitches)
Step 9: Repeat Step 8 until the hat reaches the desired length, usually about 5-6 inches for a baby hat. You can adjust the length as per your preference.
Step 10: Fasten off and weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
