Materials you’ll need:
Worsted weight yarn (color of your choice)
Crochet hook (appropriate size for your yarn)
Scissors
Yarn needle
Pattern:
Start by making a slip knot and chaining the desired number of stitches for the circumference of the hat. Join the last chain with the first chain to form a ring. Make sure not to twist the chain.
Round 1: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet in each chain around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. (This round establishes the foundation round for the hat.)
Round 2: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet in the back loop only of each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
Rounds 3-8 (or as desired): Repeat Round 2. This creates the body of the hat. Adjust the number of rounds to achieve the desired height of your hat.
Brim: To create the brim, we will be working in rows. Turn your work so that the wrong side is facing you.
Row 1: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet in each stitch across. Turn.
Row 2: Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch), single crochet in the back loop only of each stitch across. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 for the desired number of rows to create the brim. You can make the brim as wide or narrow as you like. Adjust the number of rows accordingly.
Fasten off your yarn, leaving a long tail. Cut the yarn and pull it through the last loop to secure it.
Fold up the brim to the desired width and use the long tail to sew the brim in place. Weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
