Materials you’ll need:
- Super bulky yarn (color of your choice)
- Crochet hook (size N/P-10mm or size that matches your yarn)
- Stitch marker
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Pattern: Note: This pattern is worked in rounds without joining at the end of each round.
Step 1: Starting with a magic ring, make 6 single crochet (sc) stitches into the ring. Pull the tail to close the ring tightly.
Step 2: Place a stitch marker in the first stitch to mark the beginning of the round.
Step 3: Round 1: Make 2 single crochet (sc) stitches in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
Step 4: Round 2: Make 1 single crochet (sc) stitch in the next stitch, then make 2 single crochet (sc) stitches in the following stitch – Repeat from * to * around. (18 stitches)
Step 5: Round 3: Make 1 single crochet (sc) stitch in each of the next 2 stitches, then make 2 single crochet (sc) stitches in the following stitch – Repeat from * to * around. (24 stitches)
Step 6: Round 4: Make 1 single crochet (sc) stitch in each of the next 3 stitches, then make 2 single crochet (sc) stitches in the following stitch – Repeat from * to * around. (30 stitches)
Step 7: Continue increasing the hat by adding 6 stitches evenly spaced in each round until the desired width is reached. For example, in Round 5, you would make 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, then make 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern around.
Step 8: Once the hat reaches the desired width, continue crocheting in a spiral without increasing until the hat reaches the desired length. Measure the hat against your head to determine the appropriate length.
Step 9: Fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the yarn needle and weave it through the stitches of the last round, cinching it closed to create the top of the hat.
Step 10: Flip the hat inside out so the seam is on the inside. Weave in any remaining loose ends using the yarn needle.
