Pattern:
Note: This pattern is for a newborn to 3-month-old baby dress.
Step 1: Starting with the bodice
- Begin by creating a foundation chain that measures approximately 42 chains. This will serve as the foundation for the bodice of the dress.
- Once you have the desired length, join the last chain to the first chain with a slip stitch, forming a loop.
- Chain 2 (acts as the first double crochet stitch) and then work double crochet stitches in each chain around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-2.
- Repeat this round until you reach the desired length for the bodice. Remember to measure against the baby as you go.
Step 2: Creating the skirt
- For the skirt, switch to a larger crochet hook size (if desired) to create a looser, more flowy fabric.
- Chain 3 (acts as the first double crochet stitch), then work double crochet stitches in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-3.
- Repeat this round until the skirt reaches the desired length. You can make it as short or as long as you like. Keep in mind that babies grow quickly, so it’s good to have a bit of extra length.
Step 3: Finishing touches
- Once you’ve completed the desired length for the skirt, fasten off the yarn, leaving a tail.
- Weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
- You can add buttons or other closures to the back of the bodice for easier dressing.
- If desired, you can also add ribbon or other decorative elements to the waistband or anywhere else on the dress.
