Materials needed:
Worsted weight yarn (about 600-800 yards)
Crochet hook (size I/5.5mm)
Scissors
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Pattern:
Note: This pattern is worked in rows.
Foundation Row: Chain 5.
Row 1: Double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook, double crochet in each remaining chain. Turn. (4 stitches)
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1 double crochet here and throughout), double crochet in the first stitch, double crochet in each stitch across. Turn. (4 stitches)
Repeat Row 2 until the shawl reaches your desired width. Make sure to end on an even-numbered row.
Edging:
Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, single crochet in each stitch across. Turn.
Row 2: Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, chain 3, skip 3 stitches, single crochet in the next stitch – repeat from * to * across, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, 5 double crochet in the next chain-3 space, single crochet in the next single crochet – repeat from * to * across, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
Row 4: Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, single crochet in each of the next 5 double crochet, single crochet in the next single crochet – repeat from * to * across, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn.
Repeat Rows 3 and 4 for the desired number of edging rows. Finish off and weave in ends.
