Pattern: Whimsical Waves Sweater
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in three colors: A (main color), B (contrasting color 1), C (contrasting color 2)
- Crochet hook appropriate for your yarn weight
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Size: This pattern is written for a women’s medium size. Adjustments can be made to increase or decrease the size.
Instructions:
Front and Back Panels:
- With color A, chain 101.
- Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make a double crochet (dc). Dc in each chain across. Turn. (98 dc)
- Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as the first dc), dc in the next stitch. Skip 2 stitches, 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, dc in the next 3 stitches. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
- Row 3: Chain 3, dc in the next 2 stitches. Skip 2 stitches, 5 dc in the center dc of the next 5-dc group, skip 2 stitches, dc in the next 3 stitches. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
- Repeat Row 3 until you have completed 25 rows in total.
- Change to color B.
- Repeat Row 3 for 7 rows.
- Change to color C.
- Repeat Row 3 for 5 rows.
- Change to color A.
- Repeat Row 3 for 7 rows.
- Change to color B.
- Repeat Row 3 until you have completed 25 rows in total.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Sleeves (Make 2):
- With color A, chain 41.
- Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make a dc. Dc in each chain across. Turn. (38 dc)
- Row 2: Chain 3, dc in each stitch across. Turn.
- Repeat Row 2 until the sleeve measures approximately 16 inches or desired length.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Assembly:
- Lay the front and back panels flat with the right sides facing up. Align the panels and use stitch markers to mark the shoulder seams.
- With color A, join the shoulder seams using a slip stitch or whip stitch.
- Lay the sweater flat with the wrong side facing up. Match the side seams of the front and back panels and use stitch markers to hold them together.
- With color A, join the side seams using a slip stitch or whip stitch.
- Lay one sleeve flat with the wrong side facing up. Align the sleeve with the armhole, matching the underarm seams. Use stitch markers to hold them together.
- With color A, join the sleeve to the armhole using a slip stitch or whip stitch. Repeat for the second sleeve.
- Fasten off and weave in any remaining ends.
Optional: Add ribbing to the neckline, cuffs, and bottom hem for a polished finish.
