Back Panel:
Row 1: Chain a multiple of 4 + 2 (e.g., chain 102 for a size Small with a multiple of 4 as 100). Double crochet (DC) in the 4th chain from the hook, and in each chain across. (100 DC) Turn.
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1 DC), skip the first stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch, DC in the next stitch. Repeat from * to * across, ending with a DC in the last stitch. (50 DC and 50 chain-1 spaces) Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until the back panel reaches your desired length, typically about 24-28 inches or as per your preference. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Front Panels (make 2):
Follow the same instructions as the back panel until the desired length. At the end of the final row, instead of fastening off, continue with the following instructions:
Continue with one side of the front panel:
Row 1: Chain 3 (counts as 1 DC), skip the first stitch, DC in the next stitch and each stitch across until you reach the center stitch of the front panel. (25 DC) Turn.
Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1 DC), skip the first stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch, DC in the next stitch. Repeat from * to * across, ending with a DC in the last stitch. (12 DC and 12 chain-1 spaces) Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until the front panel matches the back panel in length. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Repeat the same instructions for the other side of the front panel.
Assembly:
Lay the back panel flat and align the front panels on each side. Seam the front panels to the back panel along the sides using a whipstitch or the desired seaming method.
