Knit Child’s Striped Socks Pattern

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in two or more colors
• Set of double-pointed knitting needles or circular needles for magic loop method (size appropriate for your yarn)
• Stitch markers
• Yarn needle

Pattern:

1. Cuff: Cast on the desired number of stitches for the sock cuff. A common number is around 48-56 stitches, depending on the child’s foot size and desired snugness.
2. Ribbing: Work a few rounds of ribbing (e.g., K1, P1 or K2, P2) to create elasticity and help the sock stay in place. You can work the ribbing for about 1-2 inches.
3. Stripes: Switch to your desired stripe color. Knit all stitches in the round until the stripe is the desired width. You can knit several rounds or switch colors more frequently to create different stripe widths.
4. Repeat: Continue alternating between the main color and stripe colors until you reach the desired length for the sock. Remember to switch colors at the same point on each sock to maintain symmetry.
5. Heel Flap: At this point, you can work a traditional heel flap and gusset or choose a heel construction method that you prefer. Follow the instructions for your chosen heel method to create the heel flap and turn the heel.
6. Foot: Continue knitting in the main color, working in the round to create the foot length. Knit until the sock is a few inches shorter than the child’s total foot length, usually around 2 inches from the child’s toe.
7. Toe: Switch to the contrast color for the toe section. You can use a short-row toe, decrease rounds, or any other toe construction method you prefer. Follow the instructions for your chosen method to shape the toe.
