Skulls (make as many as desired): Note: Each skull is worked in rounds.

Starting with black or a contrasting color yarn:

  1. Magic ring, or chain 4 and slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring.
  2. Round 1: Chain 1, make 8 single crochet stitches into the ring. Pull the ring tight to close. (8 stitches)
  3. Round 2: 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, 1 single crochet in the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. (12 stitches)
  4. Round 3: 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch, 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * to * around. (16 stitches)
  5. Rounds 4-7: Single crochet in each stitch around. (16 stitches)
  6. Round 8: Single crochet 2 together, single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * to * around. (12 stitches)
  7. Round 9: Single crochet in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
  8. Stuff the skull lightly with fiberfill or stuffing material.
  9. Round 10: Single crochet 2 together. Repeat from * to * around. (6 stitches)
  10. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Shawl:

  1. Start with a chain of desired length, depending on the desired size of your shawl. A suggested starting chain is around 200 stitches, but you can adjust it based on your preference.
  2. Row 1: In the fourth chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet. Double crochet in each remaining chain across. (Total number of stitches should be a multiple of 4.)
  3. Row 2: Chain 1, turn your work. In the first stitch, make 1 single crochet. Skip the next 3 stitches, then in the next stitch, make 1 double crochet followed by 1 chain stitch. Repeat this pattern across the row, ending with a single crochet stitch.
  4. Repeat Row 2 until your shawl reaches the desired length, ending with a row of single crochet stitches.
  5. Attach the skull(s) to the shawl by sewing them on using a yarn needle. Arrange them as desired, evenly spacing them across the shawl.
  6. Weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
  7. Block your crochet skull shawl by dampening it with water and shaping it to the desired dimensions. Allow it to air dry.
