Description

Materials:

  • Fingering weight yarn in various colors (resembling beach glass)
  • Crochet hook suitable for the yarn
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Pattern:

Note: This pattern uses US crochet terminology.

  1. Start by making a slip knot and chain 4.
  2. Row 1: Double crochet (dc) in the fourth chain from the hook to create your first shell. Chain 2, skip 2 chains, and work 1 dc in the last chain. (1 shell made)
  3. Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), turn your work. Work 3 dc in the first chain-2 space of the previous row. Chain 2, work 1 dc in the next chain-2 space, chain 2, and work 4 dc in the last dc of the previous row.
  4. Row 3: Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), turn your work. Work 3 dc in the first dc of the previous row. Chain 2, work 1 dc in the next chain-2 space, chain 2, work 1 dc in the next dc, chain 2, work 1 dc in the next chain-2 space, chain 2, and work 4 dc in the last dc of the previous row.
  5. Repeat Row 3 until your shawl reaches the desired size. You can continue adding rows until it’s wide enough to your liking.
  6. To add color variations resembling beach glass, you can switch colors every few rows. Simply fasten off the current color at the end of the row and join a new color when starting the next row. Weave in any loose ends as you go to minimize finishing work later.
  7. Continue working in pattern, alternating rows and changing colors as desired, until your shawl is the desired size and you’ve achieved the look of beach glass.
  8. To finish the shawl, fasten off and weave in any remaining loose ends.
  9. Blocking: Wet block the finished shawl by soaking it in lukewarm water for a few minutes. Gently squeeze out the excess water, and then pin the shawl to shape on a blocking mat or towel. Allow it to dry completely before unpinning
