Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (or any yarn of your choice)
  • Crochet hook (size H or I, or as recommended by the yarn label)
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Pattern:

  1. Start by making a foundation chain in a multiple of your desired width. For example, if you want a blanket that is 40 inches wide, you can make a foundation chain of 120 stitches (assuming your gauge is approximately 3 stitches per inch).
  2. Row 1: After making the foundation chain, work the first row into the back bumps of the chain. Insert your hook into the back bump of the second chain from the hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and draw through both loops on the hook. Repeat this across the row, working a single crochet stitch into each back bump.
  3. Row 2: Chain 1 to start the next row (this chain does not count as a stitch), then turn your work. Work a single crochet stitch into the first stitch of the row. Continue working single crochet stitches into each stitch across the row.
  4. Repeat Row 2: Continue repeating Row 2 until your blanket reaches the desired length. You can measure your progress by laying the blanket flat and checking its length.
  5. Finishing: Once your blanket has reached the desired length, fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in the ends. Weave in all the loose ends using a yarn needle to secure them.
