Joining the Granny Squares:
Once you have made enough granny squares to create the size of rug you want, you’ll need to join them together. There are several methods for joining granny squares, but one of the simplest ways is the whip stitch method:
Arrange your granny squares in the desired pattern and orientation.
Take two squares that you want to join together. With the right sides facing each other, line up the edges you want to join.
Thread your yarn needle with a length of yarn in one of the square’s colors. Starting at one corner, whip stitch the two squares together by sewing through both loops of the outermost stitches on each square. Work your way along the edge, making sure the squares are aligned and the stitches are even.
When you reach the end of the edge, fasten off the yarn and weave in the end.
Repeat this process to join all the squares together until you have completed your rug.
