Materials:
- Patons Grace Yarn (Sport weight, 100% mercerized cotton, 1.75 oz/50 g, 136 yds/125 m)
- Main Color (MC): 4 balls
- Contrast Color (CC): 1 ball
- Crochet hook (size F/3.75mm or size needed to obtain gauge)
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: Approximately 20 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in double crochet (DC) stitch
Finished Size: Approximately 70 inches wide and 30 inches long at the longest point (excluding tassels)
Pattern:
Note: This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
Shawl Body:
Row 1 (Right Side): With MC, chain 4, skip 3 chains (counts as 1 DC), 1 DC in next chain. Turn. (2 DC)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC), 1 DC in first DC, 2 DC in top of turning chain. Turn. (4 DC)
Row 3: Ch 3, 1 DC in each DC across, 2 DC in top of turning chain. Turn.
Row 4: Ch 3, 1 DC in each DC across, 2 DC in top of turning chain. Turn.
Rows 5-104: Repeat Row 4 twenty-five times.
Row 105: Ch 3, 1 DC in each DC across. Turn.
Rows 106-111: Repeat Row 105 six times.
Fasten off MC.
Floral Motif:
With CC, attach yarn at the center of one short end of the shawl body.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 3 SC in same stitch as joining. Skip next 3 stitches, work 7 DC in next stitch, skip next 3 stitches, work 1 SC in next stitch. Repeat from * to * across, ending with 3 SC in last stitch. Join with a slip stitch to first SC. (15 petals)
Round 2: Ch 1, work 1 SC in next SC, skip 3 DC, work 7 DC in next SC, skip 3 DC. Repeat from * to * around, ending with 1 SC in last SC. Join with a slip stitch to first SC.
Fasten off CC.
Tassels:
Cut 10 strands of MC, each approximately 12 inches long. Fold them in half and attach them to the points of the shawl body. Divide the strands into 5 sections of 2 strands each, and make a tassel by wrapping another strand of MC around the folded strands about 1 inch from the top. Secure the tassel tightly and trim the ends evenly.
Repeat on the other points of the shawl body.
