RIB KNIT DOG SWEATER

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in your desired color
• Crochet hook (appropriate size for your yarn)
• Yarn needle for weaving in ends
• Measuring tape or ruler
• Optional: buttons, ribbons, or other embellishments

Pattern:

Note: This pattern is worked in rows and can be adjusted to fit your specific dog’s measurements.

1. Measure your dog:
   • Measure the circumference of your dog’s chest just behind the front legs.
   • Measure the length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
   • Measure the length from the base of the neck to the front legs.
2. Calculate the starting chain:
   • Chain a multiple of 2 stitches that is slightly smaller than your dog’s chest measurement. This will ensure a snug fit.
3. Start the sweater:
   • Row 1: Chain the required number of stitches, plus 2 for turning. Double crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook and in each chain across.
   • Row 2: Chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet), turn. Double crochet in each stitch across.
   • Repeat Row 2 until your piece measures the length from the neck to the front legs.
4. Shape the leg openings:
   • Row 1: Chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet), turn. Double crochet in the first half of the stitches, then chain a number of stitches equal to the desired width of the leg opening, skipping the remaining stitches. Double crochet in the last stitch.
   • Row 2: Chain 2 (counts as the first double crochet), turn. Double crochet in each stitch across.
   • Repeat Row 2 for a few more rows, or until the leg opening is the desired height.
5. Continue the sweater body:
   • Resume working across all stitches, double crocheting in each stitch across for the desired length, excluding the leg openings. You can adjust the length based on your dog’s measurements.
6. Finish the sweater:
   • Fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends.
